Medical examinations

A return to work examination is required after an absence from work of more than 21 days, following an accident at work, an occupational illness, maternity leave or any non-occupational illness. The purpose it to establish fitness to return to work in the same role.

A examination prior to return to work can be requested when adjustments are required to the employee's work station.

Following the visit, a fitness note is issued by the occupational physician which notifies the employer of any recommended or prescribed restrictions or modifications to the job.
